1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how F316 LTD (Company No. 864077, registered at 3 Hill Street, Edinburgh, EH2 3JP) and F316 Nigeria Limited (RC 1127806, registered at Mulliner Towers, 2nd Floor, 39 Alfred Rewane Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria) (together, “F316”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) use cookies and similar tracking technologies on our websites f316.com and tn.f316.com (the “Platforms”).
This Cookie Policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which provides comprehensive information about how we collect and process your personal data.
We use cookies in accordance with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).
2. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, to provide information to website owners, and to enhance the user experience.
Cookies may be “session cookies” (which are deleted when you close your browser) or “persistent cookies” (which remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them). Cookies may be set by the website you are visiting (“first-party cookies”) or by third parties whose services the website uses (“third-party cookies”).
We also use similar technologies such as local storage, session storage, and tracking pixels, which function in a similar manner to cookies. References to “cookies” in this Policy include these similar technologies.
3. How We Use Cookies
We classify our cookies into four categories based on their purpose. Under PECR, strictly necessary cookies do not require consent. All other cookies require your prior consent before they are placed on your device.
3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are essential for the operation of our Platforms. Without them, the Platforms would not function properly. They include cookies that enable you to log into secure areas or access essential platform features. Because these cookies are strictly necessary, they do not require your consent under PECR Regulation 6(4).
The strictly necessary cookies we use are as follows:
f316_auth_token (F316, first-party): Authentication session management cookie that maintains your login state across pages. This is a session cookie and is deleted when you close your browser.
f316_auth_verifier (F316, first-party): PKCE code verifier for secure OAuth authentication flows when using Google or LinkedIn Single Sign-On. This is a session cookie and is deleted when you close your browser.
f316_cookie_consent (F316, first-party): Stores your cookie consent preferences so that you are not asked again on each visit. This cookie persists for 12 months.
f316_utm_params (F316, first-party): Preserves marketing attribution data (such as how you arrived at our Platforms) using local storage. This data persists for 30 days.
__stripe_mid and __stripe_sid (Stripe, third-party): Used for fraud prevention and secure payment processing. __stripe_sid is a session cookie; __stripe_mid persists for up to 1 year.
3.2 Functional Cookies
These cookies enable enhanced functionality and personalisation. They may be set by us or by third-party providers whose services we have added to our Platforms. If you do not allow these cookies, some or all of these services may not function properly.
The functional cookies we use are as follows:
f316_user_prefs (F316, first-party): Stores user interface preferences such as language, theme, and notification settings. This cookie persists for 12 months.
f316_chatbot_state (F316, first-party): Maintains chatbot conversation state (Angela on f316.com and Maya on tn.f316.com) across pages during your browsing session. This is a session cookie and is deleted when you close your browser.
3.3 Analytics Cookies
These cookies help us understand how visitors interact with our Platforms by collecting and reporting information. This helps us improve the Platforms and your experience. These cookies require your consent.
The analytics technologies we use are as follows:
Plausible Analytics (cookieless): Plausible is a privacy-focused analytics service that does not use cookies and does not collect personal data. It counts page views and referral sources using anonymised, aggregate data only. Because Plausible does not place cookies or process personal data, it does not require your consent.
Mixpanel (mp_* cookies) (third-party): Mixpanel provides product analytics and user behaviour tracking. It records events such as page views, feature usage, and conversion actions, and assigns a unique device identifier. Mixpanel cookies persist for 12 months. These cookies require your consent before being placed on your device.
3.4 Marketing and Advertising Cookies
These cookies are used to track visitors across websites and to display advertisements that are relevant to you. They are also used to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. These cookies require your explicit consent.
At present, F316 does not deploy marketing or advertising cookies. Should this change in future, this Cookie Policy will be updated, and your consent will be obtained before any such cookies are placed on your device.
4. Cookie Consent Mechanism
4.1 Consent Requirements
In accordance with PECR Regulation 6 and UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a), we obtain your informed, specific, and freely given consent before placing any non-essential cookies on your device. Consent is obtained through our cookie consent banner, which is displayed on your first visit to our Platforms. Under the NDPA 2023, consent for data processing must be obtained in a clear, specific, and unambiguous manner. Our cookie consent mechanism meets these requirements.
4.2 How Consent Works
When you first visit our Platforms, a cookie consent banner will appear presenting you with the following options: Accept All Cookies (which enables all cookie categories including strictly necessary, functional, analytics, and marketing); Reject Non-Essential Cookies (which enables only strictly necessary cookies and blocks all others); and Manage Preferences (which opens a detailed preference centre where you can enable or disable each cookie category individually).
Your consent preferences are stored in the “f316_cookie_consent” cookie and are respected for 12 months, after which you will be prompted again. You may change your preferences at any time through the cookie settings link available in the footer of every page on our Platforms.
In accordance with ICO guidance, our consent mechanism ensures that: consent is not bundled with acceptance of general terms and conditions; a “Reject” option is presented with equal prominence to the “Accept” option; the Platforms function fully with only strictly necessary cookies enabled; and pre-ticked boxes are not used for any non-essential cookie category.
4.3 Withdrawal of Consent
You may withdraw your consent to non-essential cookies at any time by: clicking the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer of any page on our Platforms; clearing cookies through your browser settings (see Section 5 below); or contacting us at hello@f316.com. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out prior to withdrawal.
5. Managing Cookies Through Your Browser
Most web browsers allow you to manage cookies through their settings. You can typically: view the cookies stored on your device; delete individual cookies or all cookies; block cookies from specific websites or all websites; block third-party cookies whilst allowing first-party cookies; and set your browser to notify you when a cookie is being set.
Please note that blocking or deleting cookies may affect the functionality of our Platforms. In particular, blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in and using core platform features.
For information on how to manage cookies in your browser, please visit: Google Chrome at support.google.com/chrome/answer/95647; Mozilla Firefox at support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cookies-information-websites-store-on-your-computer; Apple Safari at support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/safari/sfri11471; and Microsoft Edge at support.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/delete-cookies-in-microsoft-edge.
6. Do Not Track Signals
Some browsers transmit a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal to websites. There is currently no universally accepted standard for how websites should respond to DNT signals. However, Plausible Analytics, our primary analytics provider, does not use cookies or track individual users, which is consistent with the spirit of DNT. For other analytics services (Mixpanel), we honour your cookie consent preferences as described in Section 4.
7. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Where changes are material — for example, if we introduce new cookie categories or third-party providers — we will re-request your consent. The “Effective Date” at the top of this Policy indicates when it was last updated.
